Tara Lawall is an Academy Award-nominated screenwriter, author, and creative director based in Brooklyn, NY.

Her animated short film Retirement Plan, co-written and directed with John Kelly, received an Academy Award nomination and won both the Animated Short and Audience Award at its international premiere at SXSW 2025. She is currently developing animated series and feature films.

She is also a two-time published author. Her first book, “This Little Piggy Went to Market in the City,”, a children's parody co-created with Rich Greco, was followed by There are Too Many Milks”, an adult humor book co-written with Anne Marie Wonder, both earning her a reputation for sharp, funny writing that doesn't take itself too seriously.

By day, she's Chief Creative Officer at Rethink New York, where her work has been recognized at Cannes, D&AD, The One Show, and the London International Awards, including a Titanium Lion and an induction into MoMA's permanent film collection.

She lives in Brooklyn with her husband, two kids, one kitten, and too many indoor plants. 🌱
